I started recording the fuel efficiency (miles per gallon) during the highway drive each day. Includes an estimator where you can select your car.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/news\/article\/Drive-55-save-gas-get-flipped-off-Trip-2600719.php\">SF Chronicle, Oct 2005<\/a>. Compares 55 to 70, but not the best comparison because 55 was in one direction and 70 was the opposite; so wind direction may have effected the efficiency.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edmunds.com\/fuel-economy\/we-test-the-tips.html\">Edmuds.com<\/a>. Estimates 12% savings.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/physics.stackexchange.com\/questions\/12874\/why-is-55-60-mph-optimal-for-gas-mileage-of-a-passenger-car\">Physics @ Stackexchange<\/a>. A good discussion about the physics behind fuel efficiency. <\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mpgforspeed.com\/\">MPG for Speed<\/a>. Includes a calculator that estimates your cost sayings in a year. <\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/truckstop.com\/blog\/furthering-your-fuel-economy\/\">TruckStop.com<\/a>. Evaluations of driving speeds for big-rig truckers (yes, even they save gas by driving slower).<\/li><li>Letter to the editor: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkshireeagle.com\/news\/local\/driving-55-mph-wont-save-gas\/article_2fe3cd28-b50a-5ce8-903a-8a5eeddc96dc.html\">Driving 55 won&#8217;t save gas<\/a>. I include this link because the author makes a claim that he seems to back up with evidence (&#8216;I drove 80 MPH and got 1 MPG better than the car&#8217;s rating&#8217;) but doesn&#8217;t actually test his claim.
